How to Install a Shower Door Without Cracking the Tile
Measure and dry-fit
Measure the opening top, middle and bottom (showers are rarely square), and dry-fit the track and frame before you drill a single hole. Plan for out-of-level walls now, not after.
Drill tile without cracking it
Use a diamond bit, mark with painter’s tape to stop the bit wandering, run it at low speed with no hammer setting, and ease off as you break through. This is where most DIY shower doors crack a tile.
Level, anchor, seal
Plumb the side jambs, anchor into studs or with the right tile/masonry anchors, and seal the outside edges with silicone — leaving the bottom weep gaps open so water drains out instead of into the wall.
